the english title reveals some clues to the performance.
the chinese title , not really.
what do you expect when you see these two dancers name on the billboard? the performance played with the audiences imagination and expectations.
is it valid? they were given time during the talk to elaborate what they tried to do, yet i can’t help but question, is it necessary? it showed that they too, felt that their performance needs to be elaborated, but by words instead.
i see the talk as part of the performance, and the two creators can of course, ask the question s they are interested and answered them in their own ways. some signs are recognizable, such as the drape, the cell phones, the headpiece.( i failed to recognise the significance of the mask, i thought its the head of c3po, oh well, considering c3po was once regarded as god to the ewoks, i wasn’t too far off)
i don’t have enough clues to what they tried to say.
the performance after the talk, was, on the other hand, “easier” to interpret. and one of the audience member was given the power to end the performance. or , to end a tradition ( of performance being ended by the performers) the power reversed. do we want to see more? are we satisfied? the audience is a alsmot the parallel of the one student who had to learn the dance from the master. the person who holds the responsibility to end the tradition
it’s a provocative piece, and i think it’s good to generate talks.
