John Logan wrote this play simply because he read about this encounter in Alice's biography. Back in 1932, when Alice opened for the exhibition of Lewis Carroll, she met Peter Davies at the event.
Some of the incidents in the play have actually happend, such as the deaths of Alice's husbands and sons and the losses of Peter's brothers. Some of the texts were taken from the two famous books, yet they made perfect senses when woven into their dialogues.
The discussions about childhood and growing up were fabricated. There would be any way of knowing what they have conversed that day when they met. Still, who else than these two prototypes of the arguably most famous characters of children's book, would be more appropriate in a play about growing up?
In this play, it seems that Alice has accepted her destiny and lived on, while Peter failed to reconcile with himself and, in the end, had a tragic life.
Wish there will be chances to see this play. It would be fascinating to see how the characters will be coordinated on the stage.
